Stone self-cleaning · Case study

Red Army Second Front Army Long March sculpture

A large red-sandstone sculpture group, fully exposed and intricately carved, now sheds water and dirt and keeps its natural colour.

MethodProtective primer + self-cleaning top coat
ProductFeibo stone self-cleaning system
Background

The problem

Red sandstone is porous and absorbs water; an outdoor sculpture suffers from rain, dust and biological growth, blackening, staining and weathering. The large, intricately carved group is hard to clean by hand without damaging the detail.

Scope of work

What we did

  1. Surveyed porosity, weathering and environment; drew up the application plan
  2. Small sample test for adhesion, waterproofing and stain resistance
  3. Professional cleaning to remove dust, algae and residue
  4. Applied the penetrating nano primer to seal the pores, then the nano self-cleaning top coat
  5. Waterproofing, stain-resistance and self-cleaning tests after cure
Results

Results and value

The surface now carries a super-hydrophilic self-cleaning film: rain carries dust away and sunlight keeps breaking down organic grime. The internal barrier stops water ingress, slowing weathering and biological attack and preserving the sandstone’s colour and carved detail.
