Background

The problem

Large outdoor stone sculptures suffer from rain, exhaust and biological growth: surfaces blacken, stain and grow algae. The huge, complex form means cleaning needs work at height — risky and potentially damaging to the stone.

Scope of work

What we did

Surveyed porosity, weathering and environment; drew up the application plan
Small-area sample test for adhesion, waterproofing and stain resistance
Professional stone cleaning to remove dust, algae and old residue
Applied the penetrating nano primer to seal the pores, then the nano self-cleaning top coat
Ambient cure, then waterproofing, stain-resistance and self-cleaning tests

Results

Results and value

The sculpture surface is now super-hydrophilic and photocatalytic: rain carries dust away and sunlight keeps breaking down organic grime and mould. The internal barrier stops water ingress, preventing efflorescence and biological attack and preserving the landmark long term.
